Thinking outside the box on job loss.

The situation

With so many people made redundant at the start of the pandemic, we were desperate to help in any way we could. So, we set ourselves a challenge to get creative and do some good. Through JMAcares, our Fresh Start initiative was born.

The solution

The idea was simple: create custom, professionally designed resumes (and personal websites as needed!) for anyone who lost their job, from any industry, for free.

There was no catch, hidden cost or anything of the sort, just a genuine desire help.

In reality, it was a big task. There’s no one size fits all when it comes a resume. We needed to get to know who you are, what you do and how to best present this on paper.

And, as you might have guessed, the response was overwhelming.

The results

After a write up from Scout by Broadsheet, things trickled in steadily and then all at once.

We received hundreds of emails, setup Zoom after Zoom to put a face to the name, sit down and chat through what you needed. It was creative chaos, but it was amazing to (virtually) meet and help as many people as possible.

And then the real work began. We tinkered, tweaked and typeset on mass, designing hundreds of completely custom new resumes. We even did a number of personal websites for people as required whatever it took to give your application an extra edge.

Thank you so much for your kindness in helping people get back on track through this crappy situation – it’s an absolute credit to you

Can I just say a massive heartfelt thankyou to you and the team for this generous work you have done here. It’s such a massive hurdle getting out there on the job hunt during Covid madness, this is such a leg up, so thankyou again.
